Rory_baptismEach Sunday at 10am our services now has a different “flavour”.

The first Sunday is a straight forward Eucharistic service,

The second Sunday is a more contemplative and reflective style of Eucharist,

The third Sunday is a Sung service (high i.e. sung psalm and Eucharist with traditional hymns and anthem),

The fourth Sunday is a more relaxed all age service (using the Eucharistic prayer that the School children use at their services).

Probably the service that people will be least familiar with is the contemplative/reflective style of service. We will trial a form of worship from a place in France called “Taize”. There will be times of prayer, silence, reflection and the  music is more “chant” like and is repeated several times. This style of worship goes back hundreds of years and is probably more a monastic tradition than our modern services. Taize itself was set up about 70 years ago and although run by a Catholic order of brothers, it has now become very ecumenical with thousands of young people visiting during the year to spend time praying and being part of a very diverse multi-cultural and multi-lingual community.

These services are not set in stone, so your comments and feedback would be welcome. Hopefully by the end of the year we should have a fair idea of how they are going and what is working well.

For those of you at 8am services it would also be helpful to know if you would like any changes to the style of Eucharist that we are doing at the moment and again I can adapt to suit.

Worship is central to Parish life, with the following services being held:

Sunday Worship

Sundays 8am – Eucharist in the Lady Chapel

A 45 minute service using the New Zealand Prayer Book, with readings, sermon and one opening hymn.

Sundays 10am – Parish Eucharist

A 60-65 minute communion service with variations as above.

Prayer Ministry is available during and after the 10.00 am service each Sunday.

Morning tea follows the service

Thursday Worship

10.15am – Holy Communion in the Lady Chapel

Traditional Holy Communion in the Lady Chapel according to the Book of Common Prayer.

Other Services

Throughout the year further services are held such as:

Palm Sunday and Good Friday services and processions shared with neighbouring St Andrew’s congregation.

ANZAC Day service, an annual Blessing of the Animals Service in October, Carol Service, and Sung Evensong, Sung Requiem.

School Services

Once a term we are joined by pupils and families from St Matthew’s Primary School for a shared, child friendly eucharist at the 10am Sunday service.  Parishioners are welcome to come along too.

Fortnightly services are held for St Matthew’s School students and staff, on Fridays 1.40-3pm.

Open Door Ministry

The church is opened by the Open Door Team from 10am to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for visitors and parishioners.  You are welcome to spend quiet time in the Church or Lady Chapel.
